Evaluating causes of non-traumatic cardiac arrest in young adults

Systemic Evaluation of the Etiologies of Young Adults With Non-traumatic Out-of-hospital Cardiac Arrest

National Taiwan University Hospital · NCT06122337

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to systematically analyze the causes of non-traumatic out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) in young patients. It will utilize a protocolized classification system to reduce the number of unknown causes and misclassifications, while also incorporating genetic testing to identify potential cases of sudden arrhythmic death syndrome. Participants will undergo a series of examinations, including history taking, electrocardiograms, laboratory tests, imaging studies, and toxicology screenings, to facilitate accurate diagnosis. The study seeks to improve understanding of cardiac arrest causes and enhance post-arrest management strategies.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are young adults who have experienced non-traumatic out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

Not a fit: Patients who have experienced traumatic cardiac arrest or are pregnant may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved identification of causes of cardiac arrest, potentially enhancing treatment and outcomes for young patients.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on cardiac arrest causes, this specific approach incorporating genetic testing in young adults is relatively novel.
