Emergent stenting for acute ischemic stroke with tandem occlusion

Tandem Occlusion After Emergent Stenting in Acute Ischemic Stroke: Preliminary Experience From a Vietnamese Comprehensive Stroke Centre

Not applicable Interventional Can Tho Stroke International Services Hospital · NCT06120218

This study is testing if using a stent along with a procedure to remove blood clots can help people with acute ischemic strokes caused by blockages in both the front and back of the brain feel better after three months.

What this trial studies

This study investigates the effectiveness of emergent stenting combined with mechanical thrombectomy in patients suffering from acute ischemic stroke due to tandem occlusion. It aims to compare clinical outcomes between patients with anterior and posterior circulation occlusions after treatment. The study will assess the improvement in patient outcomes at three months post-treatment, focusing on the challenges posed by tandem occlusions in large vessel strokes. By analyzing baseline characteristics and outcomes, the research seeks to clarify the best approaches for managing these complex cases.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 18 years old with a premorbid modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score of less than 2 and a National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score greater than 5.

Not a fit: Patients who have experienced stroke onset more than 24 hours prior to treatment or those who are lost to follow-up after discharge may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved treatment strategies for patients with acute ischemic stroke, potentially enhancing recovery and reducing mortality rates.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on the management of tandem occlusions in acute ischemic stroke, recent studies suggest that emergent stenting may offer promising results, indicating a potential for success in this approach.
