What this trial studies
This study evaluates how balance training, with and without gaze stability exercises, impacts cognitive function, balance, and dynamic postural stability in older adults aged 55 and above with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). A randomized controlled trial will involve 30 participants divided into two groups: one receiving balance training combined with gaze stability exercises and the other receiving balance training alone. Assessments will be conducted at baseline, 4 weeks, and 8 weeks using standardized tests to measure cognitive function, balance, and mobility. The training consists of 24 sessions over 8 weeks, each lasting 30-50 minutes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are older adults aged 55 and above with mild cognitive impairment, scoring between 18-25 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment.
Not a fit: Patients with significant neurological or psychiatric disorders, mobility limitations, or severe visual and hearing impairments may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance cognitive function and balance in older adults with mild cognitive impairment, potentially reducing fall risk and improving quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with balance training in older adults, suggesting potential benefits for cognitive and physical function.
