Effects of anesthesia type on recovery after hip fracture surgery in elderly patients
The Comparative Effects of Regional or General Anesthesia on the Prognosis of Hip Fracture Surgery on Elderly Patients
This study is trying to see if using regional anesthesia instead of general anesthesia during hip fracture surgery helps older patients recover better and have fewer health problems afterward.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to determine how different types of anesthesia—regional versus general—affect the prognosis of elderly patients undergoing hip fracture surgery. It will involve dividing patients into two groups based on the anesthesia type used during their surgery and assessing their health status using the Orthopedic POSSUM scoring system. The primary focus will be on comparing 30-day morbidity and mortality rates between the two groups to evaluate the potential benefits of regional anesthesia over general anesthesia.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are elderly patients aged 60 years and older who require surgery for a hip fracture.
Not a fit: Patients opting for conservative treatment or those receiving other types of anesthesia will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved postoperative outcomes for elderly patients undergoing hip fracture surgery.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have suggested that regional anesthesia may lead to better outcomes, but this study aims to provide more convincing prospective data.
