Effects of alcohol consumption during extreme heat events
Evaluating How Alcohol Impacts Physiological Responses and Perception During Heat Exposure
This study is testing how drinking alcohol affects people's bodies during extreme heat to see if it impacts hydration and how well they can handle the heat.

What this trial studies
This study investigates the impact of alcohol consumption on individuals during periods of extreme heat, particularly focusing on how it affects hydration and thermoregulation. Participants will be given either a placebo beverage or an alcoholic beverage to assess physiological responses in a controlled environment. The research aims to understand the relationship between alcohol intake and heat stress, especially as climate change leads to more frequent heat waves. By examining these effects, the study seeks to provide insights into public health recommendations regarding alcohol consumption during high-temperature events.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are healthy adults aged 19 and older who can provide informed consent.
Not a fit: Patients with a history of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, or alcohol dependence may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could inform guidelines that help prevent heat-related illnesses during extreme heat events.
How similar studies have performed: While some studies have explored the effects of alcohol on hydration and thermoregulation, this specific investigation into alcohol consumption during extreme heat is relatively novel.
