What this trial studies
This study investigates how different types of music can affect the pain experienced by premature infants during their first retinopathy examination. It focuses on infants with a gestational age of 34 weeks or less and a birth weight of 2000 grams or less. The research aims to assess whether music can provide comfort and reduce pain during this critical examination, which is essential for detecting potential vision loss. The study will involve a multicenter approach at Necmettin Erbakan University in Turkey.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are premature infants with a gestational age of 34 weeks or less and a birth weight of 2000 grams or less.
Not a fit: Patients with conditions that prevent pain assessment or those requiring oxygen support will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved pain management strategies for premature infants undergoing medical examinations.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of music for pain management in infants is a growing area of interest, this specific approach in the context of retinopathy examinations is relatively novel.
