What this trial studies
This pilot study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a multidisciplinary digital clinic designed for personalized treatment of patients with alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) and alcohol use disorder (AUD). Hepatology providers at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, and Scottsdale, AZ, will be randomized to either the digital clinic or standard care. The study will assess clinical outcomes, provider satisfaction, and patient-reported outcomes, with a target sample size of 40 providers and 150 patients. Data will be collected retrospectively to compare the effectiveness of the digital intervention against traditional care methods.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older diagnosed with alcohol-associated liver disease.
Not a fit: Patients who are unable to provide consent or have conditions unrelated to alcohol use disorder or liver disease may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to improved health outcomes and greater satisfaction for both patients and providers dealing with alcohol-related conditions.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using digital health platforms for chronic disease management, suggesting potential success for this novel approach.
