What this trial studies

This clinical trial investigates the effects of dexmedetomidine, an alpha-2 adrenergic agonist, on the hemodynamic responses of hypertensive patients undergoing endotracheal intubation. The study aims to assess how dexmedetomidine can reduce anxiety, improve intubating conditions, and attenuate hemodynamic responses such as tachycardia and hypertension during the procedure. Participants will be divided into two groups: one receiving dexmedetomidine and the other receiving a placebo. The trial will focus on patients aged over 60 with a history of hypertension who are scheduled for elective surgeries under general anesthesia.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are hypertensive patients over 60 years old undergoing elective surgical procedures under general anesthesia.

Not a fit: Patients with uncontrolled hypertension or those requiring emergency surgeries may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to safer intubation practices for hypertensive patients, reducing the risk of serious complications.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with dexmedetomidine in similar contexts, suggesting potential for success in this approach.
