What this trial studies
This observational study aims to evaluate different models of decentralized hepatitis B treatment in Ethiopia, where a significant portion of the population is affected by the virus. Three models will be implemented at primary hospitals: a standard model, a simplified model, and a test-and-treat model. The study will compare clinical outcomes, laboratory results, and programmatic measures among these models, with treatment provided free of charge to eligible patients. The goal is to enhance access to antiviral therapy in rural settings and assess the cost-effectiveness of these approaches.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who are HBsAg positive.
Not a fit: Patients under 18 years of age or those with other diseases that lead to a short life expectancy may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly improve access to hepatitis B treatment and reduce mortality rates in affected populations.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in decentralized care models for chronic diseases, suggesting potential success for this approach in hepatitis B treatment.
