What this trial studies

This interventional study enrolls adults with obesity or overweight plus a weight-related comorbidity who have been using semaglutide or tirzepatide for at least six months. Participants will add a daily portion of peanuts to their meals for 12 weeks and undergo body composition assessment by DEXA, blood tests, and questionnaires on satiety, energy, and eating enjoyment. Investigators will track changes in weight-related outcomes, dietary quality, and selected health markers. The aim is to see if peanuts can boost fullness and overall nutrition without undermining weight management in people already on GLP‑1 receptor agonists.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults with BMI ≥30 kg/m2 or BMI ≥27 kg/m2 with at least one weight-related comorbidity who have been taking semaglutide or tirzepatide for at least six months, are not allergic to nuts, and can attend in-person visits in Cleveland, Ohio.

Not a fit: People with a known nut allergy, those not using or with contraindications to GLP‑1 receptor agonists, pregnant or breastfeeding individuals, and incarcerated persons are excluded and would not receive benefit from participation.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, adding daily peanuts could increase satiety and improve diet quality and body composition for adults taking GLP‑1 medications.

How similar studies have performed: Previous trials of daily nut consumption have often shown improved satiety and diet quality without causing weight gain, but applying this approach specifically to people on GLP‑1 medications is relatively novel.
