What this trial studies

Adults who have been taking GLP‑1 receptor agonists such as semaglutide or tirzepatide for at least three months will add pistachios to their meals for 12 weeks while remaining on their medication. Researchers will measure appetite and eating enjoyment, track diet quality and weight-related outcomes, and perform DEXA scans to assess body composition changes. Blood markers and patient-reported tiredness/energy will also be collected to look for metabolic or wellbeing effects. The protocol focuses on a defined population already using GLP‑1 therapy to see if a simple dietary change adds measurable benefits.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults with BMI ≥30 kg/m2 (or ≥27 kg/m2 with a weight-related comorbidity) who have used semaglutide or tirzepatide continuously for at least three months and are not allergic to nuts.

Not a fit: People with a nut allergy, those not using GLP‑1 therapy, pregnant or breastfeeding individuals, and incarcerated persons are excluded and would not be eligible to benefit from this protocol.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, daily pistachio intake could improve fullness, energy, diet quality, and body composition for people using GLP‑1 medicines.

How similar studies have performed: Previous research has linked nut consumption, including pistachios, to improved satiety and diet quality, but studying daily pistachio use specifically in people already on GLP‑1 medications is relatively new.
