What this trial studies

This 13-month randomized crossover study aims to evaluate the effects of daily peanut and peanut product consumption on cardiometabolic, cognitive, and intestinal health in a diverse population with prediabetes. The study will involve participants consuming 43 grams of peanut butter daily to assess improvements in health markers associated with prediabetes, including glucose levels and cognitive function. The research addresses the significant public health issue of prediabetes and its complications, particularly in underrepresented populations. By focusing on dietary modifications, the study seeks to provide evidence for the role of plant-based foods in managing prediabetes and preventing type 2 diabetes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are men and women aged 20-59 who have been diagnosed with prediabetes.

Not a fit: Patients with allergies to peanuts or those with active serious health conditions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a dietary intervention that significantly improves health outcomes for individuals with prediabetes.

How similar studies have performed: While emerging evidence suggests benefits of peanuts for health, this study is among the first to comprehensively evaluate their effects specifically in prediabetes populations.
