What this trial studies
This trial evaluates the effectiveness of a culturally adapted brief motivational intervention aimed at reducing alcohol-related health disparities among Latinx individuals who have experienced alcohol-related injuries. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the culturally informed brief motivational intervention (CI-BMI) or a standard non-adapted brief intervention. The CI-BMI focuses on enhancing motivation for protective drinking behaviors and addressing barriers to treatment utilization, leveraging cultural strengths and values. The study aims to demonstrate that this tailored approach will lead to better outcomes in reducing alcohol problems and increasing treatment engagement.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are Latinx individuals aged 18 or older who have been admitted to a trauma center for alcohol-related injuries and exhibit at-risk drinking behaviors.
Not a fit: Patients with traumatic brain injuries or significant cognitive impairments may not benefit from this intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve alcohol-related health outcomes and treatment access for Latinx individuals.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that culturally adapted interventions can be more effective for specific populations, suggesting potential success for this approach.
