Creating stem cells from patients with neurological diseases
Derivation of Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells from Somatic Cells Donated by Patients with Neurological Diseases for the Study of the Pathogenesis of the Disorders and Development of Novel Therapies
This study is trying to create special stem cells from patients with neurological diseases to help researchers understand these conditions better and find new treatments.

What this trial studies
This study focuses on developing induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells from the somatic cells of patients suffering from various neurodegenerative disorders. By reprogramming human fibroblasts or other somatic cells, the researchers aim to create iPS cells that can model diseases and aid in drug discovery. The iPS cells will be used primarily for basic research and understanding disease mechanisms, rather than for immediate transplantation therapies. The project seeks to explore the similarities between iPS cells and human embryonic stem cells to advance research in regenerative medicine.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals with neurodegenerative disorders like ALS, Parkinson's, and Alzheimer's, as well as healthy donors undergoing surgery.
Not a fit: Patients who are not undergoing surgery or are not willing to donate hair or skin samples may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this research could lead to new models for understanding neurodegenerative diseases and developing targeted therapies.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using iPS cells for disease modeling, indicating a potential for success in this approach.
