Creating a new nutrition risk score for children with inflammatory bowel disease
Development and Validation of a New Paediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease NUTrition Risk Score (PIBD-NUTS)

What this trial studies
This study aims to develop and validate a new nutritional screening tool specifically for pediatric patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. The focus is on identifying children at high risk of malnutrition who may not be promptly recognized by healthcare professionals. The existing Paediatric Yorkhill Malnutrition Score (PYMS) will be tested for its effectiveness in detecting nutritional needs in this specific population. By implementing this tool, the study seeks to improve nutritional care and overall well-being for affected children.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are pediatric patients aged 4-18 years diagnosed with either Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.
Not a fit: Patients with inflammatory bowel disease unclassified (IBDU) may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to earlier identification and intervention for malnutrition in children with IBD, improving their health outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While there are existing nutritional screening tools for general pediatric populations, this specific approach for IBD in children is novel and has not been extensively tested.
