What this trial studies
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of two different approaches to caries risk assessment in children aged 7 to 11 years. One group will receive treatment based on a detailed, individualized risk assessment, while the other will be treated based solely on their dental caries history. The study will involve approximately 250 children from the Children's Clinic of the Faculty of Dentistry at the Federal University of Pelotas, monitored over a two-year period. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatment strategies, and their outcomes will be compared to determine which method is more effective.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 7 to 11 years seeking dental treatment at the Pediatric dentistry university clinic in Pelotas.
Not a fit: Patients with medical or behavioral conditions requiring special management considerations may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved dental care strategies that better prevent and manage caries in children.
How similar studies have performed: While there may be studies on caries risk assessment, this specific comparison of individualized versus simpler assessment methods is relatively novel.
