Comparing Thrombosis Risk in Elderly Patients with Hip Fractures Based on Mobility and Genetics

Is Thromboprotection Preserved in Elderly Ostopenic Patients Who Are Severly Immobilized Before Hip Fracture?

Not applicable Interventional Saglik Bilimleri Universitesi · NCT06959017

What this trial studies

This study investigates the levels of the collagen-binding protein Hsp47 in elderly patients with intertrochanteric hip fractures, particularly focusing on those with severe osteopenia. It aims to determine if these patients have a different risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) compared to more mobile individuals. The researchers will conduct gene expression analysis on patients scheduled for surgery and compare their results with healthy volunteers of the same age group. Additionally, the study will assess complications before and after surgery to provide a comprehensive understanding of the risks involved.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are elderly patients over 65 years old with intertrochanteric femur fractures and varying levels of mobility.

Not a fit: Patients with a body mass index over 40, severe chronic kidney disease, or a history of recurrent thrombosis may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved thromboprophylaxis strategies for elderly patients with hip fractures, potentially reducing the incidence of VTE.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is novel in its specific focus on genetic analysis related to mobility status in elderly hip fracture patients, similar studies have shown the importance of individualized thromboprophylaxis strategies.
