Comparing preoperative immunonutrition to standard nutrition for colorectal surgery patients
A Randomized Controlled Trial on Effect of Preoperative Immunonutrition Versus Standard Oral Nutrition in Patient Undergoing Colorectal Surgery.
This study is testing if a special nutrition plan before colorectal surgery can help patients recover faster and have fewer complications compared to regular nutrition.

What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to evaluate the effects of preoperative immunonutrition versus standard oral nutrition on patients undergoing colorectal cancer surgery. It is a randomized controlled trial that will assess whether immunonutrition can facilitate an earlier return of gastrointestinal function, reduce the risk of postoperative surgical site infections, and shorten hospital stays. The study will involve adult patients scheduled for laparoscopic elective colorectal surgery, with a focus on the nutritional support provided before the operation. The trial will utilize specific immunonutrition formulas that include arginine, omega-3 fatty acids, and nucleotides.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who are scheduled for laparoscopic elective colorectal surgery.
Not a fit: Patients who are under 18 years old, have known allergies to milk, fish, or soy, or require emergency surgery may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to improved recovery times and reduced complications for patients undergoing colorectal surgery.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with immunonutrition approaches in surgical settings, suggesting potential benefits in recovery and complication rates.
