What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to compare the effectiveness of laparoscopic versus open right colectomy for patients with right colon cancer, utilizing the complete mesocolic excision (CME) technique. It is designed as a prospective randomized controlled trial, focusing on various endpoints including the quality of surgical specimens and oncological outcomes. Additionally, the study will evaluate the early and late postoperative recovery associated with each surgical method.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 to 90 with histologically confirmed right colon cancer who are eligible for elective surgery.

Not a fit: Patients with locally advanced disease, distant metastases, or those requiring emergency surgery will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into which surgical approach offers better outcomes for patients with right colon cancer.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promising results with laparoscopic techniques in colorectal surgeries, suggesting potential benefits, although this specific comparison may be novel.
