What this trial studies
This study investigates the effectiveness and safety of honey as a topical skin antiseptic compared to traditional alcohol disinfectants. It focuses on children aged 2 to 12 years with healthy skin, who have not used antimicrobial agents recently. The research aims to address concerns about the negative impact of alcohol on skin microbiota and integrity, while exploring honey's potential therapeutic benefits. The study will involve applying both substances to assess their antiseptic properties.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 2 to 12 years with healthy skin who have not used any antimicrobial agents in the week prior to the study.
Not a fit: Patients who are immuno-compromised or have existing skin diseases such as eczema may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a safer and more effective alternative for skin disinfection in children.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of honey in wound care is well-documented, this specific comparative approach with alcohol is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
