What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effects of a virtual, community-based music mindfulness program on stress management among People of African Descent (PADs) experiencing anxiety and depression during COVID-19. It focuses on the role of communal drumming and music in reducing stress and increasing connectedness within the community. Participants will listen to recordings of drumming sessions and provide feedback through surveys, with the aim of measuring reductions in stress levels. The study seeks to address the lack of culturally relevant mental health interventions for marginalized groups.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 18 and older of African descent who are experiencing anxiety and depression.
Not a fit: Patients under the age of 18 or those not identifying as People of African Descent may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could provide a culturally relevant approach to reducing stress and improving mental health outcomes for PADs.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with community-based music interventions for stress management, but this specific approach focusing on PADs is relatively novel.
