What this trial studies
This study aims to collect microbiome samples from healthy individuals to better understand the role of microorganisms in human health. By analyzing stool, skin, oral, and vaginal samples, researchers at Ghent University will investigate how microbial composition affects various diseases. The research focuses on comparing samples from individuals of West-European origin with those from indigenous tribes to uncover the mechanisms behind microbial colonization and its impact on health. The study will involve participants aged 2 to 70 who meet specific health criteria.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are healthy individuals aged between 2 and 70 years old who are Dutch speaking and of West-European origin.
Not a fit: Patients with chronic diseases or those who have taken antibiotics within the last three months are unlikely to benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this research could lead to a deeper understanding of how microbiome disruptions contribute to various diseases, potentially guiding future treatments.
How similar studies have performed: While the study's approach is fundamental and may not have direct precedents, similar research into the microbiome has shown promising results in understanding health and disease.
