What this trial studies
This pilot study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a cognitive training program designed to enhance processing speed in individuals who have recently suffered an acute traumatic spinal cord injury. The study recognizes that cognitive impairments, such as difficulties with attention and memory, can significantly hinder recovery and adaptation post-injury. By implementing game-like computerized activities, the research seeks to provide early intervention that may improve cognitive outcomes and overall quality of life for participants. The study will be conducted at multiple sites, focusing on individuals within six months of their injury.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18-65 who have experienced a recent traumatic spinal cord injury within the last six months.
Not a fit: Patients with significant neurological, psychiatric, or substance use histories, or those with impairing visual disturbances may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could lead to improved cognitive functioning and better rehabilitation outcomes for patients with spinal cord injuries.
How similar studies have performed: While cognitive rehabilitation for spinal cord injury is a relatively novel area, there is emerging evidence suggesting that cognitive training can be beneficial for similar populations.
