Breathing and physical function as predictors of long-term outcomes after colorectal cancer

The Impact of Functional Status and Respiratory Parameters on Long-Term Outcomes in Colorectal Cancer

Observational Inonu University · NCT07523919

What this trial studies

This observational cohort will enroll adults aged 18–80 with colorectal cancer at İnönü University's General Surgery Polyclinic and collect baseline respiratory function and functional status measurements. Participants will undergo standardized pulmonary function tests and simple physical performance assessments, and investigators will follow clinical records to record long-term outcomes such as survival and recurrence. Patients with musculoskeletal, cognitive, or psychiatric conditions or recent major surgery are excluded because they cannot reliably complete the tests. The analysis will look for associations between baseline respiratory and functional measures and later clinical outcomes to identify predictors of prognosis.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 18–80 with a diagnosis of colorectal cancer who can give informed consent and complete breathing and physical function tests are the ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People with significant musculoskeletal problems, cognitive impairment, psychiatric disorders, or a recent major surgery are unlikely to be eligible or to benefit from the study's testing.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the results could help identify patients at higher risk of poor long-term outcomes so clinicians can target monitoring, rehabilitation, or supportive care.

How similar studies have performed: Previous observational work has linked pulmonary and physical function to surgical risk and short-term outcomes, but long-term prognostic data specifically in colorectal cancer are more limited.
