What this trial studies
This study investigates the effectiveness of Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy (OMT) in treating newly diagnosed patients with respiratory illnesses such as pneumonia, sinusitis, and bronchitis. The approach combines OMT with standard care to determine if it can alleviate symptoms more quickly and reduce the duration of the illness. The study is conducted at the Geisinger 65-Forward clinic in Buckhorn, PA, targeting patients aged 65-100. Previous research has indicated potential benefits of OMT in similar contexts, but this study aims to quantify those improvements in an outpatient setting.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients aged 65-100 who have recently been diagnosed with upper respiratory illnesses during their outpatient visit.
Not a fit: Patients with active cancer treatment, healing fractures, or liver disease may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a low-cost, effective treatment option that enhances recovery from respiratory illnesses.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown benefits of OMT in various models, but this specific outpatient approach is relatively novel.
