What this trial studies

This pilot study investigates the effects of a behavioral intervention aimed at improving sleep hygiene among long-term users of sleeping pills diagnosed with chronic insomnia. Participants will receive coaching support from the research team and will be encouraged to adopt regular sleep schedules. The study will monitor adherence to the intervention using an optional smartphone application, with the goal of alleviating insomnia symptoms and reducing reliance on sleeping medications. A total of 20 participants will be enrolled in this randomized study.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 55-85 who have been using sleeping pills at least three nights a week and have a diagnosis of chronic insomnia.

Not a fit: Patients with major depression, severe psychopathology, or acute medical conditions that interfere with participation may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could help patients reduce their dependence on sleeping pills and improve their overall sleep quality.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is not widely tested, similar behavioral interventions have shown promise in improving sleep quality and reducing medication reliance in other populations.
