Assessment of antibiotic practices for pneumonia in ventilated patients
Survey on Antibiotic Therapy Practices for Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia in ICU Patients

What this trial studies
This observational study, conducted by the French Society of Intensive Care, aims to evaluate current antibiotic therapy practices in critically ill patients suspected of having Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP). It will take place in intensive care units across France and French-speaking regions, focusing on the characteristics of antibiotic treatments for the first episode of suspected VAP. The study will also assess patient outcomes, adherence to European guidelines for empirical antibiotic treatment, and factors linked to mortality in patients with microbiologically confirmed VAP.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include critically ill patients aged 18 and older who are intubated and have been on invasive mechanical ventilation for more than 48 hours.
Not a fit: Patients who have a decision to limit active therapeutic measures or are organ donors may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve antibiotic treatment strategies for patients with Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia, potentially leading to better outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While this study focuses on current practices, similar observational studies have shown success in improving treatment guidelines and patient outcomes in critical care settings.
