Assessing posture in patients with spinal issues using new measurement tools

Application in Rehabilitation of BHOHB SPINAL-METER and CervicalMeter for the Assessment of Posture in Patients With Dysmorphisms and Paramorphisms of the Spine

Observational Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS · NCT06012032

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the BHOHB SPINAL-METER and CervicalMeter for assessing posture in patients with orthopedic and neurological degenerative conditions. It will correlate the measurements obtained from these devices with traditional radiological assessments, specifically focusing on the Cobb angle of the spine. The study will also assess the impact of postural alterations on balance, spine pain, and quality of life over a one-year period. A minimum of 62 patients will be enrolled to ensure statistically significant results.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults over 18 with orthopedic or neurological degenerative pathologies affecting their spine.

Not a fit: Patients with psychiatric disorders, cognitive impairments, or those unable to stand or walk will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a non-invasive and cost-effective method for monitoring postural changes in patients with spinal conditions.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on non-radiological tools for posture assessment, the effectiveness of the specific devices used in this study remains to be validated.
