What this trial studies
This observational study evaluates the short and long-term outcomes of patients undergoing minimally invasive surgery of the gastro-esophageal junction (MISGEJ). Participants will complete annual questionnaires to assess their quality of life and functionality post-surgery. Additionally, hospital charts will be reviewed annually to monitor health outcomes related to the procedure. The study aims to gather comprehensive data on the effectiveness of MISGEJ for various conditions affecting the gastro-esophageal junction.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who are undergoing minimally invasive surgery of the gastro-esophageal junction at the Ottawa Hospital.
Not a fit: Patients under 18 years of age will not benefit from this study as they are excluded from participation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of minimally invasive surgery for improving quality of life in patients with gastro-esophageal junction conditions.
How similar studies have performed: While this study focuses on a specific surgical approach, similar studies assessing minimally invasive techniques have shown promising outcomes in improving patient quality of life.
