Assessing lung recruitment potential in ARDS patients using 3D EIT and PEEP levels
PEEP Titration and Lung Recruitment Potential Assessment by 3D EIT in ARDS Patients
Peking Union Medical College Hospital · NCT06594601
This study is testing how different levels of a breathing support technique called PEEP can help improve lung function in patients with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) using a special imaging tool.

What this trial studies
This observational study investigates how varying levels of Positive End-Expiratory Pressure (PEEP) affect lung ventilation distribution and recruitment in patients diagnosed with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). By utilizing 3D Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT), the study aims to evaluate regional ventilation homogeneity and identify optimal PEEP settings for improving lung function. The research focuses on understanding the extent of lung collapse and overdistension in ARDS patients under mechanical ventilation.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults diagnosed with ARDS who are currently on mechanical ventilation.
Not a fit: Patients under 18 years of age, pregnant women, or those with specific contraindications to EIT will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved ventilation strategies for ARDS patients, enhancing their recovery and outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of EIT in assessing lung function is gaining traction, this specific approach to PEEP titration in ARDS patients is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
Eligibility criteria
