What this trial studies

This project aims to evaluate the effects of pulsed-field ablation on hemolysis and renal function in patients with atrial fibrillation. It will involve measuring red blood cell microparticles and hemoglobinuria immediately after the procedure and one to three days post-procedure. The study will include patients with paroxysmal and persistent atrial fibrillation who are eligible for catheter ablation, while excluding those with hematologic disorders or on dialysis. A total of 100 patients will be enrolled to assess the relationship between the number of ablation applications and the degree of hemolysis on renal function.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients with symptomatic paroxysmal or non-paroxysmal atrial fibrillation indicated for catheter ablation.

Not a fit: Patients with known hematologic disorders, significant hepatic disease, or those on permanent hemodialysis may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve understanding of the safety and effects of pulsed-field ablation on kidney health in atrial fibrillation patients.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is relatively novel, similar studies have explored the effects of catheter ablation on renal function, indicating potential for meaningful insights.
