Assessing hip arthroscopy benefits during hip dysplasia surgery
Single-Blind Randomized Clinical Trial of Concomitant Hip Arthroscopy During Periacetabular Osteotomy for the Management of Hip Dysplasia
This study tests if adding hip arthroscopy during hip dysplasia surgery helps patients feel less pain and move better compared to just having the surgery alone.

What this trial studies
This study evaluates the outcomes of patients undergoing periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) for hip dysplasia, comparing those who also receive hip arthroscopy to those who do not. The research aims to determine if intraarticular assessment and treatment during PAO can lead to better pain relief and functional improvement. Patients with specific indications for intraarticular work, such as labral pathology or limited range of motion, will be included. The study will analyze the effectiveness of this combined approach versus PAO alone.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are skeletally mature individuals aged 15 to 55 diagnosed with hip dysplasia and electing for PAO.
Not a fit: Patients with previous hip surgeries or those receiving PAO for acetabular retroversion without hip dysplasia may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into whether hip arthroscopy improves outcomes for patients undergoing PAO for hip dysplasia.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited evidence regarding the benefits of intraarticular work during PAO, this approach is being explored to potentially enhance patient outcomes.
