What this trial studies
This study aims to gather current data on the prevalence of diabetes and pre-diabetes in Réunion Island as part of a regional initiative to combat these conditions. It focuses on identifying risk factors such as age, obesity, and family history using the Findrisk score, which has been validated in other populations. The study will measure these risk indicators to ensure that the thresholds for diabetes risk are appropriate for the unique population characteristics of Réunion. Participants will undergo diabetes detection interventions to facilitate this assessment.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 18 to 75 who have lived in Réunion Island for at least one year and are affiliated with a social security scheme.
Not a fit: Patients who do not reside in Réunion Island for at least one year, are pregnant, or do not understand French may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved identification and management of diabetes and pre-diabetes in the Réunion population.
How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using the Findrisk score has been validated in Finland, this specific application in Réunion Island is novel and untested.
