What this trial studies

This observational study aims to evaluate the incidence of critical events associated with tracheal intubation in pediatric patients across multiple international sites. Over a three-month period, anesthesia staff will complete questionnaires for each patient undergoing intubation to document any critical events and the techniques used. The study seeks to identify potential improvements in intubation practices to enhance patient safety. Data will be collected from anesthesia records and stored in an electronic database for analysis.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include pediatric patients aged 0 to 16 years who require tracheal intubation for procedures under general anesthesia.

Not a fit: Patients older than 16 years or those who refuse consent will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved safety protocols for pediatric tracheal intubation, reducing complications.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in improving patient safety through observational assessments of intubation practices, making this approach both relevant and tested.
