What this trial studies
This study evaluates the impact of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) on balance control and muscle activity in adults over 50 years old. It aims to measure muscle activity during sit-to-stand transitions and assess balance recovery responses to lateral perturbations while standing. Participants will undergo various assessments, including muscle strength evaluations and sensory measures, to understand how DPN affects their balance and stability. The findings could provide insights into fall risks associated with DPN in older adults.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 50 years old with Type II diabetes and diagnosed peripheral neuropathy.
Not a fit: Patients with foot ulcers, partial amputations, or those unable to stand or walk independently may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved strategies for preventing falls in older adults with diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in assessing balance and fall risks in older adults with similar conditions, indicating that this approach is supported by existing research.
