What this trial studies
This study focuses on understanding and addressing fatigue in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which includes conditions like Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. It aims to identify the medical causes of fatigue and implement a treatment algorithm that considers factors such as physical activity, nutrition, and psychological wellbeing. Patients aged 18 to 70 will be recruited from St Vincent's University Hospital and followed over several weeks to months. The study will utilize interventions like exercise, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and probiotics to manage fatigue.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are mobile, non-pregnant adults aged 18 to 70 with a confirmed diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, unable to consent, or outside the age range of 18 to 70 years will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly improve the quality of life for patients suffering from fatigue associated with inflammatory bowel disease.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in addressing fatigue in chronic illnesses, but this multidisciplinary approach specifically for IBD is relatively novel.
