Analyzing hearing functions in patients with Multiple Sclerosis
Electrophysiological Studies of Auditory Functions and CSF Analyses in Patients With Multiple Sclerosis
This study is testing how well people with Multiple Sclerosis can hear by using different hearing tests and looking at their spinal fluid for signs of inflammation.

What this trial studies
This observational study investigates the auditory functions of patients diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis by employing various auditory tests, including pure tone auditory tests, speech perception tests, and Auditory Brain Response (ABR) assessments. Additionally, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) will be collected through lumbar puncture to analyze inflammatory markers. The study aims to correlate the results of Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions (DPOAE) and CSF findings to identify any statistically significant relationships. The research will involve a comprehensive selection process, including medical records review, MRI scans, and auditory assessments.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 to 50 with a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis and no prior history of hearing loss.
Not a fit: Patients with conductive hearing loss or other significant comorbidities such as uncontrolled cardiovascular disease or recent stroke may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of auditory dysfunction in Multiple Sclerosis patients, potentially leading to improved management strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies examining auditory functions in neurological conditions, this specific approach focusing on Multiple Sclerosis and auditory correlation is relatively novel.
