Analyzing genetic mutations in appendiceal cancer
Characterisation of Appendiceal Cancer by Genomic and Transcriptomic Analysis and Correlation With Clinical Outcomes

What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on patients aged 18 and older diagnosed with appendiceal cancer that has spread to the peritoneum. It involves a retrospective analysis of archived tumor tissue from patients who have undergone cytoreductive surgery. The study aims to identify the proportion of genetic mutations in appendiceal cancers and compare these mutations between primary tumors and metastatic sites. By correlating genetic findings with clinical outcomes, the research seeks to enhance understanding of treatment responses and survival predictors in appendiceal cancer.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults diagnosed with appendiceal cancer with peritoneal metastases who have had cytoreductive surgery and have archival tumor tissue available.
Not a fit: Patients without a diagnosis of appendiceal cancer or those who have not undergone cytoreductive surgery may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved treatment strategies and better survival outcomes for patients with appendiceal cancer.
How similar studies have performed: While there has been limited research on genetic mutations in appendiceal cancer, similar studies in other cancers have shown promising results in understanding treatment responses.
