What this trial studies

This observational study aims to characterize patients with pulmonary hypertension by analyzing blood samples taken during right heart catheterization. The study focuses on the wedge maneuver, where a catheter is advanced to occlude a branch of the pulmonary artery to measure pulmonary arterial occlusion pressure. Blood gas analyses will be performed on samples collected at two different times during the procedure to gain insights into the condition. The goal is to improve understanding of pulmonary hypertension and its various causes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 18 years old who have a clear indication for right heart catheterization.

Not a fit: Patients who are unable to provide informed consent or are pregnant or lactating may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the diagnostic accuracy and management of pulmonary hypertension in patients.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is not widely tested, similar studies involving blood gas analysis during catheterization have shown promise in improving diagnostic capabilities.
