What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the Healthy Families Bright Futures program, an online group intervention designed for LGBTQ+ teens aged 15 to 18 and their caregivers. The program consists of seven weekly sessions, with separate groups for teens and caregivers, focusing on enhancing acceptance, social-emotional skills, and alcohol refusal skills. The study aims to determine the program's feasibility and its impact on reducing alcohol use and dating violence among participants. Caregivers will learn positive parenting skills while teens will work on improving their self-efficacy and communication strategies.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are LGBTQ+ teens aged 15 to 18 who are currently in a dating or sexual relationship and have a supportive caregiver willing to participate.
Not a fit: Patients who are currently enrolled in college or experiencing serious mental health issues may not benefit from this program.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly reduce alcohol use and dating violence among LGBTQ+ teens, fostering healthier relationships and family dynamics.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research on concurrent prevention of alcohol use and dating violence among sexual and gender minority youth, similar interventions have shown promise in addressing related issues.
