What this trial studies
This study aims to adapt an evidence-based counseling intervention for combustible tobacco users to specifically address e-cigarette use among young veterans aged 18-30. The research will examine factors influencing e-cigarette use and barriers to cessation, while also testing the usability and acceptability of the intervention delivered via video telehealth and telephone. Participants will be compared against a self-help guide to evaluate the effectiveness of the counseling in achieving nicotine abstinence at a three-month follow-up.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are daily e-cigarette users aged 18-30 who are willing to quit nicotine within 30 days.
Not a fit: Patients who currently use combustible tobacco products weekly or have a diagnosis of dementia may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve cessation rates of e-cigarette use among young veterans, leading to better health outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research specifically targeting e-cigarette cessation in young adults, adapting existing tobacco cessation interventions has shown promise in other populations.
