What this trial studies
This intervention focuses on developing a culturally appropriate pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) program called ACTPrEP, specifically designed for young Black men who have sex with men (YBMSM). The study will gather qualitative data from participants and clinic staff to inform the intervention's design and assess its feasibility and acceptability. Participants will be enrolled to evaluate the effectiveness of ACTPrEP compared to enhanced standard of care over a 24-week period, measuring outcomes such as PrEP uptake and adherence. The study aims to identify barriers and facilitators to implementing the intervention through qualitative interviews.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are English-speaking Black men aged 18-34 who have had sex with a man in the past three months and are eligible for PrEP.
Not a fit: Patients who are currently enrolled in another PrEP study or have taken PrEP in the past three months may not benefit from this intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve HIV prevention strategies among young Black MSM.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using culturally tailored interventions for HIV prevention, indicating potential success for this approach.
