What this trial studies
This research assesses the feasibility and acceptability of a brief self-help intervention designed to enhance motivation for smoking cessation among individuals recently diagnosed with specific types of cancer. The intervention is tailored to the type of cancer the patient has, aiming to provide personalized support. Participants will be compared to a control group receiving usual care to evaluate the effectiveness of the targeted approach. The study will involve individuals who smoke and have received a cancer diagnosis within the last six months.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adult smokers who have been diagnosed with breast, colorectal, gynecological, skin melanoma, or bladder cancer within the past six months.
Not a fit: Patients who are currently enrolled in a smoking cessation program or male patients diagnosed with breast cancer will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly increase the motivation and success rates of cancer patients in quitting smoking.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with targeted smoking cessation interventions for cancer patients, indicating a promising approach.
