A new approach to diagnosing and treating heart attacks

Time for a DIagnostic Paradigm Shift From ST-elevation/Non-ST-elevation to OCClUsion/Non-occLusion Myocardial infarcTion

NA · Başakşehir Çam & Sakura City Hospital · NCT06570759

What this trial studies

This study investigates a new diagnostic approach for myocardial infarction (MI) that distinguishes between occlusion myocardial infarction (OMI) and non-occlusion myocardial infarction (NOMI). The goal is to improve the identification of acute coronary occlusion and optimize treatment strategies, potentially leading to better patient outcomes. Participants will receive either early intervention for OMI or standard interventions for STEMI and NSTEMI. The study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of this new paradigm in reducing infarct size and improving long-term cardiac health.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 years old with an ECG and/or clinical diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction.

Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, have non-ischemic myocardial injury, or have received thrombolytic therapy instead of primary PCI may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to more accurate diagnoses and better treatment outcomes for patients experiencing heart attacks.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is novel, previous studies have indicated that refining diagnostic criteria can lead to improved patient outcomes in acute coronary syndromes.
