What this trial studies
This study investigates whether specific yoga practices can enhance cognitive abilities in individuals who have experienced unipolar depression and are currently in remission. It recognizes that cognitive deficits often persist even after depressive episodes have resolved, affecting executive functions such as decision-making and focus. Participants will engage in regular yoga sessions alongside their ongoing treatment for depression, with the aim of improving their cognitive performance. Screening for eligibility will involve a verbal questionnaire to assess symptoms and suitability for the study.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 to 60 who have experienced at least one depressive episode that is currently in remission.
Not a fit: Patients with comorbid psychiatric conditions such as psychosis, bipolar disorder, or significant cognitive impairment may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide a non-pharmacological method to improve cognitive function in individuals recovering from unipolar depression.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that yoga can help improve cognitive functions in the general population, suggesting potential for success in this specific application.
