What this trial studies
This study examines the feasibility and effectiveness of the Expressive Helping intervention, which encourages Chinese American cancer survivors to write about their experiences with cancer. The trial involves adult participants who are randomly assigned to different writing interventions, including expressive writing and factual writing. Assessments of psychological symptoms will be conducted at various intervals to evaluate the impact of the writing intervention on participants' mental health. The study aims to provide culturally-sensitive resources for this growing immigrant group.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adult cancer survivors of Chinese descent who prefer to communicate in Mandarin or Cantonese and are within five years of completing their primary cancer treatment.
Not a fit: Patients who have difficulties with writing or are actively participating in support groups more than once a week may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could improve the psychological well-being of Chinese American cancer survivors.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown positive outcomes with expressive writing interventions, suggesting potential success for this culturally tailored approach.
