What this trial studies

This clinical trial evaluates the ASSIST intervention, a web-based program designed to enhance peer support for sexual assault survivors within sorority chapters while reducing the normalization of drinking as a coping mechanism. The study involves a pilot cluster randomized trial where sorority chapters are assigned to either receive the intervention or participate in an assessment-only condition. Participants will complete surveys to document norms and attitudes towards drinking and sexual assault recovery before and after the intervention. The goal is to assess the feasibility and preliminary effectiveness of the ASSIST program in fostering a supportive environment for survivors.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are active undergraduate women aged 18 and older who are members of participating sorority chapters.

Not a fit: Patients who are not members of a sorority or are under 18 years old may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve the support systems for sexual assault survivors in sororities and reduce harmful drinking behaviors.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is relatively novel, similar interventions targeting peer support and alcohol use have shown promise in other contexts.
