What this trial studies
This prospective study aims to investigate the impact of vitamin D on the development and correction of spinal deformities in adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis. Participants will undergo a thorough medical history assessment, including measurements of age, body size, and bone density. They will be divided into two groups based on their vitamin D levels, with those having low levels receiving supplementation. Follow-up evaluations will occur every six months for two years, incorporating clinical, laboratory, and radiological assessments to monitor progress.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adolescents diagnosed with idiopathic scoliosis and a Risser sign of less than 3-4.
Not a fit: Patients with neuromuscular diseases, metabolic disorders, or significant organ dysfunction may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance treatment options for adolescents with scoliosis by utilizing vitamin D supplementation to improve spinal health.
How similar studies have performed: While the role of vitamin D in bone health is well-established, this specific approach in treating adolescent scoliosis is novel and has not been extensively tested.
