What this trial studies

This study investigates the effects of vitamin D replacement on reducing the occurrence of bronchiectasis exacerbations in patients with vitamin D deficiency. It is a self-controlled pilot study that invites participants from a previous related study to assess the impact of vitamin D3 supplementation. Participants will have their blood levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D monitored throughout the study. The aim is to provide insights into the potential benefits of vitamin D in managing bronchiectasis.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older with a confirmed diagnosis of non-CF bronchiectasis and who participated in a prior related study.

Not a fit: Patients with underlying asthma, COPD, other respiratory diseases, osteoporosis, or those already taking vitamin D supplements may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved management strategies for bronchiectasis patients, potentially reducing hospitalizations due to exacerbations.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have explored vitamin D's role in respiratory conditions, but this specific approach in bronchiectasis is relatively novel.
