Virtual reality exercise during hemodialysis sessions
Virtual Reality Exercise Intradialysis: Tolerance and Dialysis Dose Effects During the Last vs. First Part of the Hemodialysis Session
This study is testing if doing virtual reality exercises during the last two hours of hemodialysis helps people feel more stable and healthy compared to exercising during the first two hours.

What this trial studies
This investigation aims to determine whether performing virtual reality exercises during the last two hours of hemodialysis leads to better hemodynamic stability compared to exercising during the first two hours. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups, with each group engaging in a 30-minute virtual reality exercise program that includes a 'treasure hunt' game designed to encourage leg movement. The study will also evaluate various secondary outcomes, including dialysis efficacy, health-related quality of life, and cognitive function over a 9-month period. The exercise sessions will incorporate warm-up and cool-down periods, along with multiple engaging games to maintain participant interest.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients who have been on hemodialysis for at least three months and are clinically stable.
Not a fit: Patients who have experienced recent cardiac events or are unable to exercise may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could enhance the physical and mental well-being of patients undergoing hemodialysis.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with virtual reality interventions in improving patient outcomes, suggesting potential for success in this approach.
